GAUDI

G.A.U.D.I., a MSc Creative Robotics × Cognitive Robotics (TUD) project, combines robotic precision and human intuition, manipulating material using human hand gestures.
Outline
The project explores gesture-enabled Human-Robot co-creation in additive manufacturing. The audience will test 3D-printed clay fabrication, in which natural hand gestures directly control the robotic arm and material deposition. Socially, it democratizes collaboration by removing technical barriers, making robot operation accessible. From a scientific standpoint, this novel gesture control extends beyond art, offering safer applications across various critical industries.
Credits
This was work was created at the Creative Robotics in Spatial Design studio, which is a collaboration between the Architecture and the Built Environment, Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial Design Engineering faculties of TU Delft. It was supported by TU Delft Science Center, RoboHouse, and TU Delft Robotics Institute. Universal Robots loaned the hardware to make this exhibition possible.
We thank the course coordinator, Serdar Asut, for allowing us to undertake the research and guidance throughout the project. Feras Alsaggaf, course instructor, for continued support in software development. The course tutor, Alper Semih Alkan, provided insightful discussions on theory and design guidance. And, Vera Laszlo, Paul De Ruiter, and Henry Kiksen, from the LAMA LAB, for constant technical support during the prototyping phase.
