Co-Blauw

Co-Blauw is a live painting installation by MSc Creative Robotics x Cognitive Robotics (TUD). Visitors paint in Delft Blue style, and the robot learns their gestures.
Outline
Robotics in creative industries is often met with concern over the replacement of humans. This project proposes a framework for a new form of spatial craft that emerges through human-robot collaboration. The audience is invited to paint ceramic tiles with the robot by physically holding and guiding the robot arm. In the human-machine assemblage, through learning from demonstration, machine learning and simple physical feedback, new forms of creativity and aesthetics will unfold.

This was work was created at the Creative Robotics in Spatial Design studio, which is a collaboration between the Architecture and the Built Environment, Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial Design Engineering faculties of TU Delft. It was supported by TU Delft Science Center, RoboHouse, and TU Delft Robotics Institute.
Team Co-Blauw owes additional thanks to Alper Alkan, Feras Alsaggaf, and Charalampos Andriotis for their guidance and to Royal Delft for giving us the privilege of two guided tours, artefacts to work with, numerous conversations with craftsmen and being a source of inspiration throughout the project.
